Abstract

The implementation of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems in buildings requires an evaluation of the compatibility between solar energy generation and electricity demand to maximize energy utilization. This study analyzes the load matching between the electrical load profile of the Faculty of Engineering Building at Universitas Kristen Indonesia and the energy production of an on-grid PV system using the Self-consumption Ratio (SCR) and Self-Sufficiency Ratio (SSR). Load data were collected from the Low Voltage Main Distribution Panel over six working days at one-minute intervals using a KEW 6315 Power Quality Analyzer, while solar irradiance data were obtained from the NASA POWER Data Access Viewer. Based on an effective rooftop area of 386.29 m², two PV capacity scenarios were evaluated: 77.258 kWp (Scenario 1) and 38.629 kWp (Scenario 2), processed in MATLAB. The building exhibits an average Load Factor of 0.71, with most consumption occurring during PV generation hours. Scenario 1 achieved SCR of 54.60% and SSR of 94.24%, but with substantial exported energy (635.26 kWh). Scenario 2 achieved a more balanced SCR of 88.45% and SSR of 76.34%, with far lower exported energy (80.78 kWh). A load-shifting strategy improved both SCR and SSR in both scenarios without battery storage. A PV capacity of approximately 40 kWp, about 50% of the maximum rooftop capacity, is recommended as the most suitable capacity for the building.
