Abstract

Abstract

Academic anxiety is one of the psychological conditions commonly experienced by

students in the learning process, especially when facing academic demands such as

examinations, assignments, and assessments. This study aims to analyze the level of

academic anxiety of students at SMAN 1 Sambi Rampas based on gender and grade

level. This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach using an academic

anxiety questionnaire consisting of 27 statements covering eight aspects: physiological

symptoms, sleep disturbances, concentration difficulties, worries and fears, low self-

esteem, avoidance behavior, panic, and attention disturbances. A total of 107 students

participated as respondents, consisting of 41 male and 66 female students from Grade

X (54 students) and Grade XI (53 students). The analysis results indicate that the

majority of students (50.5%) fall into the high academic anxiety category, 36.4% are

in the moderate category, 9.3% in the very high category, and only 3.7% in the low

category. Female students had a higher mean anxiety score (71.83) compared to male

students (67.49). Grade XI students also showed a higher mean score (71.92) compared

to Grade X students (68.44). The aspects with the highest mean scores were worries and

fears (2.70) and attention disturbances (2.66). These findings highlight the need

for serious attention from schools to address students’ academic anxiety through

appropriate guidance and counseling approaches as well as psychological intervention.
