Abstract

This research aims to explore whether there is sexism in Islamic leadership, with a case study on the Indonesian presidential election after Megawati Soekarnoputri. This research was conducted using a qualitative method with data collection techniques of library research and discourse analysis. The research data was collected using secondary data collected through libraries, journals, books, articles, electronic media, websites, as well as speeches related to the presidential election. The findings show that there is sexism manifested in Islamic leadership discourse, such as gender stereotypes and the exclusion of women from high leadership positions. However, the post-Megawati Soekarnoputri presidential election showed significant changes in terms of gender inclusion in politics, with female candidates being seriously considered and greater participation of women in political campaigns. This research has important implications in the context of Muslim-majority Indonesia. By understanding the discourse of Islamic leadership and gender inclusion in politics, better gender equality can be achieved in Indonesian society.
