Utilizing Brown and Levinson's politeness theory as the analytical framework, the research examines how members of parliament navigate face-threatening acts through linguistic strategies to maintain social harmony and achieve political goals. Data for the study were collected from the official parliamentary transcripts, focusing on instances of directives such as requests, commands, and suggestions. The analysis reveals a predominance of negative politeness strategies, reflecting a high sensitivity to hierarchical structures and the desire to mitigate imposition. Additionally, the study identifies contextual factors, such as the socio-political environment and cultural norms, influencing the choice of politeness strategies. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the intersection between language, power, and culture in parliamentary discourse, offering insights into the pragmatic dynamics of political communication in Papua New Guinea. This research underscores the importance of context in the pragmatic realization of politeness and highlights the role of language in shaping political interactions within legislative settings.

Keywords: Politeness strategies, Directive speech acts, Papua New Guinea National Parliament

Andreas Noreewec Copyright (c) 2025 DIALEKTIKA: JURNAL BAHASA, SASTRA DAN BUDAYA http://ejournal.uki.ac.id/index.php/dia/article/view/6082 Mon, 06 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0000 POLA METODOLOGI NEO-POSITIVISME PENELITIAN BAHASA http://ejournal.uki.ac.id/index.php/dia/article/view/6269
Metodologi disusun untuk mencapai tujuan.
Endry Boeriswati, Saifur Rohman , Ahmad Zaki Munibi , Saiyidinal Firdaus, Erfi Firmansyah , Hendrawanto CH, Sastri Br Rajaguk-guk Copyright (c) 2025 DIALEKTIKA: JURNAL BAHASA, SASTRA DAN BUDAYA http://ejournal.uki.ac.id/index.php/dia/article/view/6441 Mon, 06 Jan 2025 00:00:00 +0000 KAJIAN FENOMENOLOGI PADA PENELITIAN BAHASA http://ejournal.uki.ac.id/index.php/dia/article/view/6440
Epos Sister Krismon Selan Dakhi , Sri Zulfida, Endry Boeriswati, Saifur Rohman, Yules Sianipar, Mimin Aminah Copyright (c) 2025 DIALEKTIKA: JURNAL BAHASA, SASTRA DAN BUDAYA http://ejournal.uki.ac.id/index.php/dia/article/view/6440 Mon, 06 Jan 2025 10:15:27 +0000 SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS: MUSIC GENRES AND FASHION EXPRESSION AMONG ENGLISH LITERATURE STUDENTS AT UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA http://ejournal.uki.ac.id/index.php/dia/article/view/6383
This study used Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory to analyze the influence of music genre on the fashion expression of English Literature students at the University of North Sumatra. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. Data was obtained through structured interviews with three informants who have preferences in punk, alternative rock, and K-pop music genres. The results show that each music genre influences different fashion elements regarding colors, accessories, and clothing styles. The punk genre reflects the values of freedom and resistance through dark colors and distinctive accessories, alternative rock highlights self-expression through edgy fashion elements, while K-pop carries modernity and femininity with pastel colors and styles inspired by Korean popular culture. The environment of USU's Faculty of Humanities also plays a vital role in supporting the diversity of student fashion expressions to interact with music subcultures and social identities. Thus, fashion is not only a visual representation of musical preferences but also functions as a sign system that communicates the identity, values, and affiliations of the student community on campus.
Yulia Pradinda, Muhammad Fakhran al Ramadhan Copyright (c) 2025 DIALEKTIKA: JURNAL BAHASA, SASTRA DAN BUDAYA http://ejournal.uki.ac.id/index.php/dia/article/view/6383 Wed, 15 Jan 2025 02:55:32 +0000 The Analysis of The Usage of Internet Language Features Used by Men and Women on Social Media http://ejournal.uki.ac.id/index.php/dia/article/view/6416
The rapid advancement of computers and the internet has led to the emergence of internet language as a prominent linguistic phenomenon. Exploring the distinctive features of this language has become an important area of study in recent years. This research analyzes the typical features of internet language used by men and women commenters on Instagram, with a particular emphasis on gender-based differences. The study investigates ten common digital language features: multiple punctuation marks, unconventional spelling, capitalization, asterisks for emphasis, written-out laughter, music/noise references, action descriptions, emoticons, abbreviations, and rebus writing. These features serve as the basis for data analysis. A qualitative approach is used to examine the collected data in-depth. The findings reveal that while both genders use capital letters (though not in all caps) and multiple punctuation marks (such as exclamation points and periods), women employ more internet language features overall—42 features compared to 31 by men. Additionally, woman users are more likely to extend consonants in their spelling, whereas men tend to repeat vowels. These differences illustrate how users modify language for efficiency and self-expression in digital communication.
Gunawan Tambunsaribu, Teguh Prasetyo Copyright (c) 2025 DIALEKTIKA: JURNAL BAHASA, SASTRA DAN BUDAYA http://ejournal.uki.ac.id/index.php/dia/article/view/6416 Thu, 16 Jan 2025 09:45:24 +0000
